How Solar Helps You Save Money

Solar is associated with a lot of great benefits, but the one that’s most important to a lot of our customers is the money they can save by switching. Solar energy can save you money in several ways. The biggest and most obvious source of savings is the fact that when you generate your own energy, you don’t need to buy as much from the electric company, significantly lowering your utility bills. But solar also offers other opportunities to save through better energy efficiency, green energy incentive programs, and more.

Solar Helps You Save By:

  • Helping you avoid price hikes from electrical companies.
  • Increasing the value of your home
  • Generating excess energy that can be sold back to the grid for credits
  • Allowing you to access tax credits, rebates, and other green energy incentives from local and federal governments
  • Letting you generate your own energy instead of paying for electricity from the electric company

How Solar Panels Work

The photovoltaic (PV) cells that make up solar panels absorb energy from sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. But most of your household appliances aren’t compatible with this type of electricity, so that power is channeled into an inverter that’s built into your solar energy system. This inverter converts the DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity that can be used to power your appliances, light fixtures, and other features. Once it’s been converted, all that cleanly generated power gets distributed by your panel or breaker box just like any other electricity you use.

However, there are a few key differences in how solar energy is used as opposed to how traditional energy is used. For example, your utility meter measures the electricity you use, but when you’re using solar energy, you may notice that it starts running backward. This happens when your solar panels produce more energy than you’re actually able to use and allows you to access net metering benefits and energy credits that offset any traditional electricity you need to use at night.

Grid-Tied and Off-Grid Solar Solutions

There are two types of solar energy systems that our technicians can help you set up – grid-tied and off-grid. A grid-tied solar energy system still leaves your home connected to traditional electricity sources, allowing you to use energy from the electric company when there’s not enough sunlight for your solar panels. An off-grid solar energy system, on the other hand, is designed to be entirely self-reliant, with no outside electricity needed. These systems are usually supplemented by generators or solar battery storage.

No matter what kind of solar system you’re interested in, our technicians will help you make sure that the panels and equipment you end up with are uniquely tailored to meet your needs. Whether you want to supplement your current energy use with solar or switch entirely to renewable energy, we’ve got you covered. We can even help you transform a grid-tied system into an off-grid system.
